Cup, house, body, foot, hand, bird, dog, lover, plant, tree.
These are archetypal symbols that exist within my dreams. I am constantly reworking within this language in order to complicate their meanings. My work is a place for me to explore a dream state that is not tethered to societal standards, that is egalitarian and gender is a limitless spectrum. In this series that has spanned over past three years, I am still constantly running into the same ideas. These images become a visual language that continually reflect a deeper subconscious meaning. I think these symbols come from a place of wanting a renewed symbolism.  I feel as though when I paint, nothing is ever what it seems to be. There is a culmination of actions that occur when the medium of watercolor and sumi ink interact on paper. Some of my brush strokes are unintentional and spontaneous. The result does not need to be defined because it is apart of the ambiguous nature of my work.
